Fuel tariffs
I realize that there are a fair few variables to consider, but would I be better on a fixed or variable tariff, for the next 12 months. Eon are asking what we want.

At the moment the price of elect/gas has come down so do you take a gamble on a fixed rate The sting in the tail are the standing charges which seem to be going up

I’ve just signed up with EDF on a fixed for a year tariff.
Check on line with money saving expert, Martin Lewis, to see if you can better the Eon offer.

We have no complaints with our company who have just imformed us that they are reducting the monthly direct debit which never happened when we were with the foreign owned rip off energy companies
Best company we have been with and 100% British owned!

It doesn't matter one jot whether your energy company increase or decrease your monthly payments. The scenario remains the same in that you are only charged for what you use.

Chesh., you are charged for the ability to use energy, whether you use it or not.
That said, I know what you meant.
Many people’s monthly payments are a lot higher than their energy usage. It follows that the payment companies are £billions in credit. They are in debt to their customers.

Thank you, Tonker.
A least you understood the point that I was making.
Apparently, Tommy seems to be having some difficulty in grasping it

Except when yoo are in credit with the energy company to a large amount and you ask for them to refund you the overpayment, they don't want to give it back to you
Then there is the ishoo of 'standing charges' I wonder if some energy companies have a 'sitting charge'

Tommy.
When you are in credit Its not an overpayment. It means that you have used less energy than originally anticipated.
That money is still in your account, they will not steal it from you!
That credit will come in handy in the winter months. Thats why I don't mind leaving my credit in as opposed to asking for a refund when they reduced my direct debit monthly payments

I only know that the company we are with are owned by a blue chip company in the city of London, who have taken on customers from some of the small companies that went under.

The British company we are with do offer to refund any amount as long as you keep their recomended direct debit amount that will keep you in credit and also give a estimate on each monthly statement how much you are are expected to spend over the following twelve months which varies each month depending on how world prices of energy change.
At the end of 2022/23 financial year, due having had a inflated monthly direct debit to keep our account well in credit during the ever increasing energy costs period that resulted in us building up a credit of £869, they got in touch and offered to refund any amount we desired which we did and the amount in full of £869 was credited into our bank account in the normal banking period of 3-5 days.
Never got that kind of customer service when we were with the foreign owned companies of the EU countries of France, Germany, Spain etc.

How would you feel if …..
The newsagent charged you twice the cost, “in case you read more magazines in winter”?
The supermarket charged you twice as much, “in case you eat more in winter”?
The petrol station charged you twice as much, “in case you drive out more in summer”?
etc. etc. etc.
I think the payments companies should be paying the statutory 8% interest on all monies held as credit over 12 months.
Those who agree, say “aye, laaaake”!

What people decide to do to keep their head above water in exceptional circumstances like for example, a pandemic is up to them, but I agree that companies should be charged interest for holding on to customers money to obtain interest themselves.
A short while ago, I returned a faulty item worth nearly £300 to Amazon, but instead of getting the refund in the usual 3-5 days, it took over a month to refund the money and then it was only when I got on to them a couple of times about the refund and on the second occasion told them that they either they refund the money or else I would be getting in touch with the consumer protection people that they expediated the refund immediately.
